What I like about digital marketing?
I want to be the next Rand Fishkin or Jeff Bullas or a Neil Patel or a Larry Kim. I want to be the most sought-after digital marketing influencer whom college kids or people in the marketing industry look upto.
NO.
These were not my dreams. I didn’t know the first thing about marketing until a year and a half ago. It was May 23, 2016, when I kick started my career as a tax analyst with Ernst and Young — one of the top four audit firms in the globe. It’s been 2.1 years since I was introduced to the phase of independent adulthood and there’s no looking back.
Having spent 5 months in my first job at Bangalore, I moved back home (Chennai) and joined a data company wherein about five months of my new career I was absorbed into marketing which at that point in time I never thought it would turn into something I would absolutely enjoy doing.
Digital marketing is not just for passionate people who pursue a degree in it or someone with ample industry knowledge and experience. It is for anyone who is creative, who is inspired by the art of selling, writing, and exploring.
So here it goes,
5 things that put me in awe of digital marketing
1. Learning has no saturation, ever.
The most beautiful thing about digital marketing or be it any industry is the learning curve. Even the greatest of the greatest marketing minds would agree that they’ve not mastered it because nobody can master it.
There’s just so much happening every day, every minute that the very thought of there’s something more to explore is exciting and assuring. Not just the new things, marketing has no rules or stringent theories or formats that you have to religiously follow.
It gives you the liberty to try out new things, make choices and take a call on how you’d like to take your marketing strategies forward — how you want to build your social profiles, do influencer marketing, run your campaigns — right from what content you want to distribute to when you want to do it — all depends on your choice as there’s no one size fits all. It all varies on the what, why, and how you are marketing.
“There are no boundaries to discoveries and growth in marketing, there’s always a further destination to hustle for”
2. It offers countless opportunities
If you are the creator of all the content or the SEO wizard or the designer of the team it does not mean that you have to stick to what you do.
The most wonderful thing that does not happen with any other field is, with marketing you are free to play around other segments. With so much content on the web guiding you to top-notch tool and techniques for blogging, designing and adding some SEO magic to your content.
You’re allowed to taste other dimensions and there’s no hard and fast rule to stick to what you do. All you need is interest, passion (a lot of it), curiosity to go, grow, and glow.
“Digital Marketing is the most hot and happening that does not curb your interest to explore”
3. Every bit counts, really.
In digital marketing, every effort is measurable. You can identify, track, analyze, and measure everything you do. Thanks to all the analytics tools that let you take credit for all your efforts represented in numbers.
Not just the marketers, but for anyone, in general, it is always nice to know how all the toil has triumphed into. All the sweat will never go in vain, but for one day will slowly pile up and make a small but significant contribution to the overall ultimate goals.
“In digital marketing, good results will always be pointed to the efforts of an individual and hard work is always appreciated”
4. It’s for everyone
As I already mentioned, digital marketing is not just for people with certificates or qualifications. If you have a digital proficiency, a lot of creativity and willingness to explore, you can always call yourself a digital marketer.
It is overwhelmingly fascinating for a fresher or a person who has made a wide jump like me from crunching tax numbers to writing content, digital marketing is indeed for everyone.
Everyone needs to market themselves, your skills, abilities, tactics, strategies are all simply useless if you do not show it out to the world about what you can do. Every successful influencer or a person holding huge designation constantly market themselves because they know the power of it.
That’s what digital marketing does to an organization, it reflects the brand, the image, cuts through geography and other barriers. It is the only, I stress again, the only way to reach audience spread wide and far.
“Digital marketing is indispensable for any organization, if you think to have a shot at it, then just go for it”
5. It’s fun
Yes! Marketers do have pressure, accountability, workload, tight deadlines, hardcore research, the need to show results in numbers like in any other field.
But what makes our job fun and exciting and makes us want to work harder?
It’s simple. Marketing is hot and happening. Our work is never monotonous, right from the CMO to the content creators, everyone has the liberty to try out things, experiment new ideas, deal with lively websites, actual audience, get a hand on designs, have a say on keywords/SEO.
“Our work is diverse and always fun to do :D”
